Dear brave readers,

I was looking for a subject in my brain’s depths, and all I could hear inside my jellied mind was the echo of an abyss. When some weeks ago, as I was shopping at Atelier AM for my Mimikri post, I received a weird IM : “May I ?… I need blood, may I bite you?” What the hell was that?! A voice from hell precisely: a vampire called Eloindir.

My first reaction was to laugh, a bit too nervously maybe: I have never been into role playing games or other obscure existences in SL, except if you consider with a sure sharpness that the SL fashion world and the relationships between SL models themselves or agencies are nightmarish role playing games. But this Eloindir was so polite, asking for my precious fluid of life when he could just have gone for my throat like a wild creature, drain my veins, and make a wonderful necklace with some drops of my frozen blood… Yes he was such a gentleman that I decided to accept.

Well… I must say I did not feel anything special, while I had imagined something sultry like a scene from the Coppola’s Dracula. My kiss of Death was… short… very short. But as I would say to my rl lovers : “Length (double meaning) doesn’t matter”. The experience was new enough to be satisfying. Except I needed something in return. Come on! Now he had my non-expired blood running through his virtual dead body! I’m a shopaholic : you give money you get a dress, you give your blood, what can you get?… And here rang the bell! Halloween was at the end of the month (okay, now it’s over, but this is my usual french delay), I was looking for a post to succeed the one I was going to write about Mimikri: The next one would be something about vampires’ fashion.

Eoindir immediately accepted to be my male partner in fashion crime.

As I’m unused to SL male fashion, I read many blogs, and some will be adeed to Posh Pride’s blogroll as great sources of inspiration. I really wanted to avoid the pitfall of RP outfits because my vampire could not be dressed for a Halloween masked bal except if you turn “trick or treat” into “chic or thread”!

After a short glance to the Thierry Mugler’s male “défilé automne –hiver 2010” which was all in one theatrical, glamourous, and possible to wear (that’s the more important point!) I had the look of Eloindir in mind: A good balance between retro tendencies to remember the classic (has been?) image of vampires, and something looking more modern. My vampire could be a glam rockstar of nowadays playing outrageously with outdated and trendy codes. First, a jacket from a famous male store, but in red as a “clin d’oeil” for Mugler and cliched vampire’s stuff. Then, unusual pants (from a great crazy male designer, Cheerno Destiny) which evoke the 16th European century (with the puffy legs), the 40’s (with the length under the knee), the 80’s (with their provocative humour) and a modern audacity. Next, very old-fashioned shirt and tie, but totally trendy boots from Anexx.

For me it was of course easier: I had already my vision of the contemporary “ideal victim” look: in most folklores, the victim is the innocent young lady or the woman of easy virtue. Between the pure and the whore, I chose the first (contrary to all expectations). I imagined a very shy but totally fashionable student. A girl always dressed in B&W, intern in a local newspaper, and spending days and nights at the library. I wanted of course a white romantic dress for the idea of purity and innocence but I chose the “Dirty snow” outfit by Triangle Caudron and mixed it with my crow top from Milk Motion not to look too “well-behaved” and “smooth”. I added a black blazer and several items from the last Designers United event (which was a SL success) to highlight both her serious mind and her hidden knowledge of trends (I’m sure she has all the Elle magazines under her bed).

For my own vampire outfit, I just had to find the items which would fit the shape I had imagined for Eloindir : red tons on top, black and a bit puffy at hips’level…Here again, I did not want to loose my fashion mind in an outfit which would remember Halloween and not “Hell is In”. That’s why I avoided every places specialized in RP fashion, and only shopped in my usual stores, or used some of my closet’s items. More than being exactly the shape I was looking for, the “Night Love” jacket (from Leezu Baxter) had already the perfect name for my post’s subject, and the LeLutka skirt from the “Theo dress” was the good answer to the CheerNo pants of Eloindir. I authorized myself some gothic accessories (but always fashionable) wearing my succubus pumps from 69 (with their batwings and skulls details) and the “noir desire black widow” headpiece from La Gyo.

My interview with a vampire was over, and my neck a bit painful, but it had worth the trip. Because sometimes, fashion’s inspiration is hidden behind bushes we had not dared to approach…

I’ll end this post with some “messages personnels”:

For Eloindir: Thank you dear for having been such a patient model and friend in our crazy shopping’s and photoshooting’s sessions. I know you’ll bite me again if I don’t say that you’re not a simple vampire, but an elf-vampire. This will explain the size of the ears. However I invite you to watch the “Nosferatu” of Murnau: the vampire have an interesting pair of ears as well and is far to be an elf :p… Just kidding Elo. Thanks again.

For Cayce: I discovered you had created a new blog. I wish you luck and lot’s of readers, and add it to Posh pride blogroll.

Dear known or soon to be fashionista (or fashionist),

I was walking with a rl friend who sometimes meets me in sl for the simple pleasure to wear stilettos. In rl she’s indeed this kind of gorgeous creature, measuring 1,86m (six feets), wearing zero size, looking like a mix of Chanel Iman, Lara Stone and Tao Okamoto, and always walking with flatshoes, pretending that with high heels she’d feel like a weird giant monster… Poor thing… You know, this kind of friend you always want to slap because you have never seen a monster -even a giant one- looking like a Vogue cover… Nevertheless if I was so tall I’d wear breathtaking heels and look at the world from above. Anyway…

We were gossiping at the Glamour expo just before it ends, yawning our pretty heads off, when she suddenly asserted : “You definitely can’t wear this without looking like a slut!”… We were in front of Mimikri, I firstly thought she was delirious, then thinking of all the Mimikri items of my inventory I realised I had always been thinking the same. But my point of view is more contrasted : Mimikri Kit’s creations compel me to confront my personal fashion issues : I’m a fashionable borderline, and I’ve been developing a sadomasochistic relationship with some fashion designers (remember my post about Paper Couture) and Mimikri Kit is not an exception to this rule.

Since my first purchase in… I’ve forgotten (I have no age, time has no hold on me)… Since my first purchase, as I was saying, I’ve been a faithful customer of this label BUT I’ve never been able to determine the general style of the brand, the “basics”. The most detailed and realistic designs in sl fashion mix with some fabrics you wouldn’t find even in the cheapest bargain counter. Some outfits will give you a good taste lesson, when by wearing some others you’ll take the risk to be asked your price for a night (or less!). … Between the glamour chic and the vulgar shock, there’s just one step Mimikri can easily take forward and backward.

But let’s talk clothes with some releases of last months… My first question mark goes to the famous “On Stage” outfit… I can already see your eyes glittering, but don’t be too excited. This deals more with Britney Spears forgetting to wear her panties than with a great actress running for an award. The material – a beaded leather- is as often amazing, and remember me the great quality of other Mimikri’s jackets. But if you’re in the mood to look like a lap dancer in sl streets, it’s up to you. The zip in front of the hot pants which are nothing more than knickers, are almost a joke and a provocation against years of feminist struggles: Don’t spread your legs, just unzip your mini-pants! Those of bad faith could always say the zipper is the symbol of a mouth with sharp teeth, and that these pants are more a trap for penis than a ready to fuck accessory… I’ll stay sceptical… Never forget women are no sex toys! The jacket could be a masterpiece with its theatrical collar and its plunging low neckline. But made heavy with all these pearls and golden-rococo flourishes, it eventually looks like some bad piece of Dior. Yes, “On Stage” could easily be worn by Beyonce Knowles, which is not the best parallel because despite she was dressed by Galliano for her last show, remember he’s the one who invented the concept of “Porno Chic” in fashion. And in “Porno Chic” there’s not only the word Chic…

I’ll be shorter about the “Mieze” collection. I mean a leopard-fur-short-jacket is a risky choice. Virtual furs don’t kill animals and are totally fashionable, that’s right. In natural leopard ton or in grey (a grey leopard fur looks classy and less “new bourgeois”), this jacket is an achievement and its short shape adds a modern and young aspect to a material (the fur) which often looks too classic. But why are they released in pink, orange, purple, turquoise?! This is how an almost article of value becomes a loss in value. Yeah I know in Haute Couture you can easily find coloured furs in crazy tons but this is Haute Couture, when Mimikri claims itself “hot couture”… I’ll use my joker for the Mieze sweaters, dresses, and leggings, because I have not found the opportunity yet to dress myself as a fashionable homeless… And if you mix them with the Ilvi sweaters, you’re ready to go back to Middle Age…

So if you’re still reading, you must hate me, and ask yourself why do I still shop at Mimikri?… Well, the answer is simple : because when she does not mistake “sassy and sexy” for “bitchy”, or “original” for “carnival” Mimikri is an inevitable fashion address in SL.

Let’s face it, the Ilvi dress is a treat for the eyes and for our closet. Mixing the romantic shape of a baby dress made of flounces and broad nets with the raw and genuine aspect of leather is a true discovery for the modern princesses we are. This dress is perfect for those who wants to express both their girlie’s nostalgia and their rock and roll attitude.

The Glitz dress presents versatile aspects: its shift shape makes it classy and a bit strict but its length “au-dessus du genou” and its “bustier” are definitely sexy. The geometric designs of the fabric and the way these lines are coloured and combined gives a futuristic and abstract touch to the ensemble. Wearing this, I feel like a sexy android ready to cause earthquakes under my metallic stilettos.

The new Fritzi outfit looks like delightful candies: the embroidered corduroy skirt is soft and warm, and the blouse light and delicate: the ensemble seems so cute! But too cute to be true! The skirt is very short, and the blouse semi-transparent! A perfect outfit for those like me who don’t want to be too easily labelled. I love to mix its items with others more incongruous to reveal the Audrey Hepburn under cocaine or the housewife fallen in the darkside who both doze in a corner of my brain…

Dear… Who read this blog by the way?

You must be blind if you have not noticed a sign of our times yet. If you’re in this case but want to find out what I’m speaking about, don’t think it looks like a dead end street. No, it’s more something about the end of a circle. And the end of a circle means as a consequence a new start which is both a change and a beginning again… I know this sentence boils your brain: Fashion is complicated indeed… Let’s say after some years of “easy to wear” silhouettes even in Haute Couture, designers have decided to wink at the eighties. Believe me, you lost reader: this winter will definitely wear shoulder straps!

Good news I’d say! I’ve always been crazy of theatrical and structured styles which were too strong for the woolly, soft and casual tendencies of last seasons. After neo-hippies, let’s move on to neo-eighties: wider shoulders for a “thinner waist” effect, the illusion of a bigger height, and for sharper outfits. The time of laziness has passed and fashion becomes more dramatic again. Let’s energize our closets!

What was a weird garment some years ago is now a must have: when we see so many jackets with proud shoulder straps invading lot’s of stores since months (Milk, SMS, Muism, more recently Sweetest Goodbye…) it’s clear fashion is asking us to assume our hidden Decadence jacket from Bare Rose for instance (I know I have already blogged twice about this piece but who cares?! Let’s say I was “avant-gardiste” http://poshpride.wordpress.com/2008/12/08/we-bear-roses/ & http://poshpride.wordpress.com/2008/03/06/first-fashion-faux-pas/ ). In other words: Never say never.

To illustrate this new-old-tendency I firstly chose a Lelutka jacket with huge shoulders (a bit too much maybe?). As she has always been working with graphic patterns or geometric shapes, I secondly put on a top and trousers made by the great Triangle Caudron. Then I realized I could give to my outfit a punk spirit by adding one element of a skirt from Amerie. The improbable mix of the horizontal black and white lines of the pants and the red tartan frills and laces of the skirt creates an original destructured skirt that Jean-Paul Gaultier himself would love!

Fashion is not simply covering your shape with a flat fabric: this is a matter of movement, of volume, of character.

And to satisfy my neurotic obsession, I’ll post an extra picture of the same outfit without the skirt, but with the famous Decadence jacket instead of the Lelutka’s: “Good things come in threes” and we can’t blame Bare Rose for having anticipating the trend!

Dear I don’t know who,

One thing to learn: Never mistake « being out of fashion » for « being out of season ». You’ll understand my point of you later.

When I came back to SL some weeks ago, I was strongly determined to be a simple- normal-anonymous SL being with no boring and demanding modeling agreement, ready to stop wasting my precious time blogging or flickering or gossiping, and the more important resolved to treat myself for my unreasonable shopping addiction. My first logical move was consequently to visit the Lus’ store and… to spend linden.

Back and lost already.

How delightful! How reassuring to find Paper Couture’s fabrics and atmosphere again. In this virtual world, maybe this is the only thing I’ve really missed, after Cayce Newell of course. I was a bit surprised of what I would call the “italian turn” of their work, and maybe a sort of “calming down”, a light touch of conformity, but I don’t want to make a review of the collection right now. I mean, come on! We’re in September, autumn is knocking at our closets’ doors and I’m talking about the spring issues.

True, but who cares?

I don’t want to be labeled by seasons! And now you understand the first lines of this post:

“Being out of season” is not “being out of fashion”. By mixing two outfits of the spring collection of PC, I propose an ensemble which fits the time: a lovely dress all fashionistas already wore thousands times, but customized by a jacket not too warm because winter is still far from us, but enough to protect your naked arms and shoulders. Lots of frills – I confess, lots of puffy and bows’effects – that’s right, but a romantic shape is necessary to keep some sweetness in the air while leaves are falling.

100% PC: Autumn blows everything away except Paper Couture.

Dear posh readers,

It was impossible for me to start a new year without mentioning an icon who died at the end of last december. I was surprised not to read any post about her in the past few weeks… Well as usual I’m a liar : I’ve read maybe two or three mentions of this huge personality in Ingenue’s blog for instance.

Anyway, as a fashionista, a bit trashy, loving fifties graphics, contemporary art, vintage, New York 70’s, underground theater, I want to pay a tribute to the amazing Bettie Page died on the eleventh of december now 2008.

Why a post about Bettie in Posh Pride ?! Because she was controversial, famous, and disturbed rules and manners of her time, and because her life could be written or adapted to the cinema (which is the case actually)… Just like Cayce’s life and mine (in our dreams).

She of course had a terrible chilhood, but succeed in becoming an erotic myth , a trashy pinup, famous for her glamour, SM, bondage, « jungle », naked pics, and her sense of humour and self-derision.

It’s true she was a sexual object, but I’d rather say she was « refreshing » and provocative in an american society of the fifties where women were considered as housewives with no right to be desperate (smile, cook, or die !). She helped to raise the sexual revolution of the sixties. And the fact lot’s of artists from the 50’s to nowadays are inspired by her (from John Galliano to David Lynch…) ends to proove she has definitely entered the private sphere of Icons.

Of course we won’t speak here about how she eventually fell into religion thinking she had become a prophetess, and almost killed her family by enforcing husband and sons to pray in front of a Jesus picture… by « enforcing » I mean with a butcher knife ! How theatrical ! She of course experimented mental asylum but nobody’s perfect, and these are small details which make a person’s life almost incredible and rock n’ roll… despite I would not threaten someone with a butcher knife, except to offer me the last Balenciaga evening dress.

As a posh, I’m pride to show you some pictures as a tribute to Bettie Page… I thank Cayden for accepting to wear my shape and skin (I knew he loved being dressed as a woman :p) and I thank Cayce for keeping at least underwears ;)…

If you’re interesting by some of the items and want to know where we got them, just ask, and see more pictures on my flickr.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/vyckie-or-the-posh-pride/

And don’t forget to express your inner Bettie…

Dear readers (yes, I know there’s no more reader of this blog as there’s no more new post to read…)

The Posh Pride team is tired of fashion and vanity of SL world, but hearing about Winter Jefferson’s SOS call for Bare Rose, we decided to get out of our closets (especially mine because Cayce has not stopped to have a vibrating and hot SL “topicality”).

I have to confess I’ve always been half convinced, half disappointed by Bare Rose… Each time I bought a B@r outfit with a real enthusiasm – and you should know I hardly get enthusiastic about anything except maybe japanese food, fine algerian cakes, swiss chocolate, italian coffee, and french wine – I was inevitably disappointed after putting them on my virtual body… Always a detail, an item, a bad texture, a weird shape, a little something which did not fit, or did not give me the feeling to have a perfect product. Moreover June Dion’s creations are often strongly thematic or “dress coded” : heroic fantasy, knights of science fiction, victorian girls, gothic sluts, vampires gentry, fashionable robots, traditional oriental style etc. I can occasianally be heroic, often fashionable, and even more a slut, I can bite or sing chinese songs. But despite this, it was difficult for me to find something casually wearable.

That’s why I stayed away from Bare Rose for a while till I realized the items could be very stunning when mixed or matched. So instead of feeling frustrated by each entire outfit, I understood Bare Rose could be in fact an unlimited source of fashionable fun and creations to showcase your inner personality by assembling each one of your favourite items into a great peculiar outfit. And as the prices are very attractive (especially when some of the more expensive SL labels are far to be the more creative, because high price does not mean quality or sense of fashion!), Bare Rose is one of the best (laggy) place for newbies, theatrical fashionistas, divas of the streets, and playboys of the trend, to fulfill their wardrobes and create their unique style mixing cheap and original items.

Yeah, Posh Pride’s roses bear Bare Rose. Definitely.

On Cayce, a good balance between a trendy Gavroche and an everyday posh. On me, something between a bohemian rhapsody and a fetichist mistress :

Which band of the eighties used to sing « It’s raining men! Alleluia!”?
I mean, I can tolerate a rain of men because it’s always usefull to wash the sidewalks of the dogs’ carelessness… But I would never thank God for such a shower! I’m not pretending I don’t like men. I love some of them, especially mine. But I’m SL bored to always be the center of macho attitude and silly remarks!
It seems 75% of men in the metaverse imagine being a sl woman is synonymous with being a whore or a sex addict: How many IM when you’re in a store to tell you that you are the eighth wonder of the world?… We all know what they really mean…
Here is a little dictionary to decode some sl men’s thoughts:

“Wow, you’re gorgeous”: if this sentence is not preceded by a greeting and an apology for disturbing you, then you have to understand: “Holly shit! I’d like to fuck you.”

“You illuminated my day” = “Are you available for the night?”

“Could you give me a favour?” = “I need a virtual blowjob”

“I love women with a strong character” = “Majority of women are weak”

“I love the way you’re dressed”: If you’re wearing a dress or an over the knees skirt, it means: “How much?”

“I don’t like lies or people pretending to be what they aren’t” = “Do you mind if we use a webcam?”

“I love your sense of fashion” = “I love good butt and boobs”

“I’m a very sensitive guy” = “I’m a damned f*cking liar!”‘

The day a man literally jumped on me and clung to my leg as if he was a dog, I realized it was even worse than in RL… I made some small experiences. I created a male shape, and I tried it several days… It was easy because Vyktor sounds like a male name as well… Believe me or not, but I had no problem at all! No vulgar words, no indecent proposals, no invitation for cyber sex sessions. Amazing isn’t it?

I remember the first time I went out in SL streets with the first non-newbie clothes I had bought (skirt from the Dress Satin Red by *Redgrave*, top of the White Horse outfit by Paper Couture, and Paper Couture’s stockings), my first “real” pair of shoes (Purple suede Funkies by Maitreya), my first high quality skin (it was the Vanessa skin by the Good Life at this time), my new hair (Lush by Cake), and the definitive shape I had created which were going to lead my virtual life to modelling … I was so proud to eventually be the way I wanted to be in front of every people. But maybe thirty minutes later, in a store, I got my first : “You’re sexy, you know that hun ?”…

Yes ladies, even in SL, it’s not so easy to be a respected woman, to wear skirts without being treated like a stripper… I’d like to propose you a girly game : during the next sl week, we could act like men do : accost a guy or several in the street, in stores, everywhere you want, use explicit words, and copy/paste his/their reactions in this blog, or simply share your experiences… Just to see if they like to be treated like simple objects of attraction…

Next time I’ll put on a male shape, I’ll dress it with a short skirt to see if the rules are the same…

I’ve recently read many interesting articles on how to become a good model in SL™ and, despite they’re all highlighting some important details of this job, I believe all of them miss some crucial points.

The *Posh Pride* team is proud to fill up this shameful hole in the metaverse information, listing here all you really need to be a successful model in SL™.

1) be sure to have a background in the stripping entertainment industry

2) don’t bother about your sense of fashion and your look: pay a stilyst for a full makeover and let her/him decide your own style before your first casting

3) if you can’t afford it, go and buy a Minnu skin, buy a KMADD shape, read the fashion feed and pick up a couple of outfits everyone is blogging about – don’t even dare thinking about having a look around for unusual shops, that’s for loosers

4) you’d better be engaged with someone who is already a famous model, a famous designer, a famous-whatever in the fashion industry

5) run your own business: design clothes, furniture… or, at least, shapes! Come on, everybody can make shapes.

6) if you really can’t do anything at all, you must be hired by a famous designer and work for him/her as a store manager or a marketing director. You can start as an instore model, maybe, but remember that cleaning the windows doesn’t count

7) a designer must admire you enough to name clothes after you

8 ) you must be a fashion blogger, a journalist, or, better, own and run your own magazine: you’ll be hired hoping to get some free publicity in exchange and you’ll likely be the last minute selected contestant in any pageant

9) always say you’re “too busy” (and consider wearing a tag that says you’re afk): photoshootings, tons of photoshootings, hours and hours of fitting before a show, and, of course, as any respectable Upper East Side Lions Club member, charity events

10) have Frolic Mills in your friend list: don’t ask for details, just smile and friend him

11) pay random visits to Shoppingcartdisco.com and leave nasty messages claiming “Tenshi, this is your usual personal vendetta!” (again, don’t ask for details, just do it)

12) forget about “sense of humour” – this overestimated feature – and get angry after reading this post.

Dear… Who by the way?… No matter.

*Posh Pride*’s statistics have just exploded after the publication of the last post “Paper Couture=No Future!”, that’s why Cayce and I simply decided to come out on strike.

What do you think readers?! You imagine only because you suddenly are thousands to read us we have to feel a kind of pressure?

No way: we’re too lazy and my brain almost dissolved by writing the PC post. I had to keep it in the fridge for a while, feeding it with the worse trashy sl newspapers, and moulding it again with my own hands before being able to use it. That’s why for this new post, I decided to return to the basics with a classical style’s description… But don’t worry: in French theatre we’re in used to say we must “leave the audience to a frustration’s feeling”… In a less fake intellectual way, we could call that a cliffhanger. As a consequence, just know if you’re frustrated enough by the three or five posts which will follow, you’ll be more surprised and pleased to realize later we have a lot of hot news and gossips in reserve…

But let’s speak about my today look. I’ll be short because I know you all think my posts are always too long, and it’s a real pain for “fashionistasses” to be focused during more than 87 words (age of Coco Chanel when she died. God bless this bitch!)… And I’m already beyond this limit!

I was invited by my worse enemy, Carla, to teach a teenagers’ group some tricks about fashion and rules of “savoir-vivre”. She begged me something like: “I know you’re french and intolerant but please don’t make bad jokes about their bad skins: they are in a spotty age, as you know…” Of course I did not precise I don’t: I never had such a problem: I was frozen by my parents from 13 to 21 years old. Thanks mum & dad… She also added: “Try to forget your *Posh Pride* tag for some hours: treat each one of them as an equal; speak to these kids as if you were level with them”…

Well well well… First of all, I wanted to make these young beings understand that seeing and listening to me was a precious present. Therefore I chose to wear several items with delicate ribbons and bows to personify a gift wrapping everybody would love to unwrap (diamond bow earrings, mirror wrapped by a ribbon for the necklace, bows on the sleeves…). Secondly, as I knew I would hardly enforce myself not to make any remark about their faces devastated by acne, I put on a polka dot skirt to express my compassion… And eventually as it would have just killed me to simply keep my posh mouth shut, I decided to wear the higher hair I could find in my inventory, just to let them know there will always be at least six degrees of separation between them and me the diva…

You’ll notice the colour and the shape of the crazy high bun (something between Marge Simpson and an atomic mushroom) perfectly remind the golden dots of the skirt, and so does the small round mirror of the necklace… Yes, details are a question of life and death.

“That’s all”. Oh no ! I need all the posh sl fashionable people to demonstrate so that our blog can be linked in Fashion World of SL !!! Thank for us which means for yourself as wel…
